comments: there are 26 impressions of this skull, of which Custodia possesses 25; one remains in the artist’s collection. Pannekoek considers the skull to be a ‘space-object’. Hercules Segers also made a print of a skull (HB 53). In 2009 Pannekoek made one drypoint after a painting attributed to Segers with a human skull seen from the side (FP 09-5/6).

The black grouse was shot by Rudolf Lemperg (an Austrian surgeon in Sweden who owns a house in Lōs Canôs) on 6 October 1972 in Grannäs (see Pannekoek 1977, p. 27, 31). A similar black grouse was shot and drawn by Pannekoek in October 1973. Orre is Swedish for black grouse.
