Exhibition: Frans Pannekoek & Charles Donker
Ten years after the retrospective exhibition of Frans Pannekoek at the Fondation Custodia in Paris, a selection of prints by the artist will be on show at Galerie Documents 15 in Paris from 18 February to 2 April 2022. The (sales)exhibition will present a number of the artist's earlier drypoints and etchings in subtle grey tones as well as his later, more colorful work in which the variation between different impressions makes them come close to being monotypes.
The exhibition focuses on the interaction between Frans Pannekoek and Charles Donker in their graphic work. The artistic friendship between the two artists started in December 1971 when Pannekoek first saw Donker's etching Crab in a Box and the artists exchanged prints with each other. Besides this beginning, with later prints of crabs by both artists, the exhibition shows their different approach to the flat Dutch landscape and the more rough Spanish mountain landscape, as well as other themes in their work.
